HOW DANGEROUS IS RADON?
Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers, and the second leading cause overall. Your risk of lung cancer increases with higher levels of radon, prolonged exposure, and whether or not you are a current smoker or former smoker.
What is Radon & Why is it so dangerous?
Radon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless radioactive gas that can seep into your home through your soil. When it is inhaled, radon can damage your lungs and cause cancer. Long-term exposure can lead to lung cancer. About 21,000 deaths occur every year in the U.S. due to radon exposure. The only way to know if your home is in danger is to have a radon test performed. Whether a home is old or new, any home can have high levels of radon. Minnesota Department of Health estimates that 2 in 5 homes exceed the 4.0 pCi/L action level. Effective January 1, 2014, the Minnesota Radon Awareness Act requires specific disclosure and education to be provided to potential home buyers during residential real estate transactions in the state of Minnesota. Before signing a purchase agreement to sell residential property, the seller must disclose in writing to the buyer:
1. Whether a radon test or tests have occurred on the property
2. The most current records and reports pertaining to radon concentrations within the dwelling
3. A description of any radon levels, mitigation, or remediation
4. Information on the radon mitigation system, if a system was installed, and
5. A radon warning statement

Radon abatement costs vary, depending on the severity of the radon contamination. Each installment is different, depending on the age of the home (new Minnesota homes can be installed with a radon abatement system to reduce the exposure to radon) and the time it takes for the mitigation. We can give you a free quote and send a certified technician to your home to set up our radon monitoring device and provide you with an accurate read out for you to review. We take the time to review your results with you, and answer any questions you may have. Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the “acceptable” level of radon for homes and businesses?
The US EPA has established the "action level" for deciding when you need to "do something" about the radon in your home, school, or work place as 4 pCi/l. With that being said, lower levels of radon are often still mitigated. You can decide what levels of radon you are comfortable living with in your home. Radon testing allows you to get an accurate reading of your home
2. What do I do when I find that I have radon in my home?
Certified radon testing with Radon Be Gone will give you an accurate and immediate breakdown of your home’s radon levels. With these numbers, one of our certified radon specialists will sit down with you to review your options. Any radon level at or above 4 pCi/L is advised to opt for radon mitigation. The process of getting rid of radon in your home is quick and will soon put your mind at ease.
3. What is the difference between do-it-yourself radon kits and hiring a radon professional?
The common do-it-yourself charcoal tests are often not accurate, and take up to90 days to accumulate radon numbers. The test is then sent to a lab, where it is processed and an average number is calculated. The problem with these devices is the contamination of the time that the test is removed from your home to the time the lab receives the test, so the numbers can often be skewed significantly. Our devices are the most technically advanced CRM’s available to certified radon professionals. We are able to link your device to a smartphone and give you your results at the time of retrieval of the device; which is only 48 hours. We provide a very in-depth and accurate report, which we will review with you.
4. Will I have any symptoms from radon exposure in my home?
There are no joint pains, headaches, rashes, etc., that will occur with radon exposure. Radon exposure is similar to lung cancer, and some of these symptoms include:
Coughing: This includes a persistent cough that doesn't go away or changes to a chronic "smoker's cough,” such as more coughing or pain.
Coughing up blood: Coughing up blood or rust-colored spit or phlegm
Breathing difficulties: Shortness of breath, wheezing or noisy breathing
Loss of appetite: changes in appetite, which may lead to unintended weight loss.
Fatigue: It is common to feel weak or excessively tired.
Recurring infections: Recurring infections, like bronchitis or pneumonia
5. What makes us different from others?
Besides being family owned and operated, we are different from the other guys. We have the most advanced software and testing devices available on the market (to radon professionals). Our devices are calibrated and consistent in their readings, so you can be assured that you will have the most accurate reading for your home. Other devices are outdated and often don’t have an accurate reading, as they are contaminated between the time tested in your home and the time they arrive at a lab. We will walk you through the entire radon testing or radon mitigation process, from the time you speak to our customer service department to schedule an appointment or consultation, to the time we retrieve your device and review your immediate results from our testing.
